RuimteScanner 2.0 described in full

9 February 2024

PBL published RuimteScanner 2.0: Systeembeschrijving van een exploratief ruimtelijk allocatiemodel voor actoren, objecten en grondgebruik, by Bart Rijken, Eric Koomen and Jip Claassens. It documents the version of the model that splits what used to be a single land-use layer into three: actors, objects and land use.

That split sounds technical and is not. A dwelling is an object, the household in it is an actor, and the residential area around it is land use. Keeping them apart lets the model say that a neighbourhood densified without new land being taken, or that people moved while the buildings stayed, which one layer of land use cannot express.

The system description is the reference the RSopen documentation is built on. More about the model in land use and spatial planning.
